Ship Classification serves to ensure that the hull and machinery of ships or offshore units are constructed, operated and maintained in accordance with a prescribed set of Rules and Regulations, which have been established on the basis of theoretical structural strength, recognized fabrication and repair methodology, and in-service experience.

Through a regulated regime of periodical surveys carried out throughout the vessel's lifetime, the condition of hull and machinery is assessed on a regular basis, thereby satisfying the Classification Society that the vessel remains in a satisfactory and seaworthy condition.

In the event of damage to hull or machinery, as a result of casualty, breakdown, or from findings of periodical survey, repairs are required to be carried out to a satisfactory standard, by a method approved by the Classification Society.

The surveyors of A Adamson & Company possess an extensive knowledge of the application and implementation of Class Rules and Regulations, and can provide ship Owners and Operators with invaluable assistance at all stages from design and construction to operation and repair. We regularly attend vessels whilst afloat or in drydock, in order to liase with attending Classification Surveyors for the purpose of expediting periodical maintenance or repair.
